Announcing - Professor B. S. Sathyaprakash
In 1916 Einstein predicted that dynamical mass distribution generates ripples in the very fabric of spacetime that propagates outwards at the speed of light. For over two decades B.S. Sathyaprakash (Sathya for his family and friends) has engaged in research to detect these ripples called gravitational waves, from cataclysmic cosmic events such as exploding stars, colliding black holes and the big bang. His personal goal is to observe and understand black holes and gravity using gravitational radiation. He is the head of the gravitational physics group at Cardiff University - a centre for modelling astronomical sources of gravitational radiation, discovering algorithms to search for this radiation and analyzing data from gravitational-wave detectors using massive computer clusters.

Well, we don't know about you guys, but we thought that was fun! Apart from the bits where it was really hard work and stressful. But they were sort of fun too! ;-)
TEDxCardiff is over for another year, and Claire and I are really pleased with how it went. The speakers were all brilliant, the volunteers were amazing, and the crowd were receptive and engaged.

Saturday Lunch Hour Storytelling
With
TIM RALPHS
“The Allure of Lying”
As the curtain rises on the latest TEDxCardiff event, Beyond The Border is delighted to present performance storyteller Tim Ralphs and ‘The Allure of Lying’. Tim is a wordsmith and narrative artisan who will weave tradition folk tales with modern myths in this compelling collection, specially concocted to lead into the TEDx Cardiff Lectures. In “The Allure of Lying” he will take you on a journey charting the first falsehood told on the internet, the Devil’s favourite Facebook games and a museum curator’s trouble in disposing of corpses. Leading you laughing and enchanted by equal turns, the only question left unanswered will be whether anything you’ve heard is true!
Saturday 9th April – 12.00pm.
Presented by Beyond The Border Wales International Storytelling Festival

Those of you that follow us on Twitter, or on Facebook will already know that we plan to hold the next TEDxCardiff on the Saturday 9th April 2011 at the Wales Millennium Centre.
Before we start planning in earnest, please let us know what you would like to see at the next TEDxCardiff.
Also, several have already expressed an interest in being involved, and the event couldn’t happen without the help of volunteers. We’re changing the way we work with volunteers, and will be putting together small, tight teams to run specific parts of the event. If you are interested in volunteering then please enter your details in this form.
Or, just drop us a line to info-at-TEDxCardiff-dot-co-uk if you would like to get in touch.
You can sign up to our mailing list to be kept up to date via email.
You can also see the Facebook event here.
Cheers!

Some of you may remember that speaker DK is looking to discover what inspires people from the age of 1-100. He’s missing a few age groups, particular on the “more mature” end of the spectrum. Or maybe you have children who would be interested in telling him what inspires them?
If you can help him out, please click here.
