Mark Lewney

Dr Mark Lewney is a professional physicist, with a PhD in Guitar Acoustics, who uses the science of electric guitars to explore the nature of reality and string theory.

He has performed at science festivals and music festivals worldwide, including Tokyo, Las Vegas, Seattle, a tour of Australia and New Zealand, and all over Europe.

His radio appearances as a guitar physics expert include Radio 4’s Material World and Radio 2′ Anatomy Of The Guitar with Harry Witchel of Spinal Tap/The Simpsons.

On television he wrote and presented his own 3 Minute Wonder on Channel 4 The Physics Of Rock Guitar , and has appeared on Newsnight and CBBC as “Einstein crossed with Hendrix”, and as a patent expert on The Money Programme and The One Show.

Liz Bagshaw

Dr Liz Bagshaw has interests in glaciology, biogeochemistry and microbiology – that is, how life exists in extreme cold environments, what impact it has, and how we can measure it.

After a PhD in Antarctic Biogeochemistry and postdoctoral training in Glaciology and Engineering, Liz moved to Cardiff University to take up a lectureship in Earth and Environmental Sciences in 2014. Now a Reader, she will take up an Associate Professorship in Glaciology at the University of Bristol in April 2023.

James Gough

Dr. James Gough is COO of a multi-national technology scale-up, McCain Institute fellow and the Founder of One Shot Immersive, a Virtual Reality social venture providing trauma training for humanitarian crises, conflict and disaster. He is a former military and aid doctor having served with the British Army and the ICRC in Afghanistan, Egypt, Indonesia and Bangladesh. James is a social entrepreneur. He uses his humanitarian, medical, business, and technological experience to bring change for good.

Her book, Everybody Needs Beauty: In Search of the Nature Cure explores the history, science and politics of the nature and wellbeing relationship, and asks how this connection can help in the fight for climate justice.

Nicky Trevorrow

Nicky is passionate about cats and is Cats Protection’s Behaviour Manager, promoting feline behaviour and welfare. She holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Animal Behaviour and a Postgraduate Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling. Nicky is a registered veterinary nurse. She represents CP on the Animal Behaviour and Training Council.

Astrophysicist turned Editor for Fifth Star Labs, Dr. Jenifer Millard is a passionate science communicator, often appearing on BBC radio and TV to lend her expertise. She hosts the popular podcast Awesome Astronomy, and is one of Cardiff University’s 30ish Award winners for 2022.

Bronwen Lewis

Bronwen is a Welsh singer songwriter who’s style sits between Country, Pop, Folk and Blues. She is proudly bilingual and an instrumentalist, playing piano and guitar from childhood.

Bronwen Lewis is currently on her second UK solo tour after her first tour in 2022 was a sellout. She is due to perform her one woman show at the Swansea Grand to a 1000 fans.

She starred in the BAFTA Award Winning and Golden Globe nominated film ‘Pride’ where she sang the theme song ‘Bread and Roses’

Jaspal Naveel Singh

Dr Jaspal Naveel Singh is a lecturer in linguistics at the Open University. His research is about how language shapes our understandings of gender, sexuality and race.

Jaspal’s first book “Transcultural Voices” traces the beginnings of hip hop culture in urban India. Jaspal lives in Cardiff and has recently become a father to a small baby.
